Budget 2008 - Business Measures

In a Budget that has little to be excited about – either positively or negatively - there are a few business measures to be mentioned:
Accelerated depreciation for manufacturing and processing equipment
The capital cost allowance (CCA) system determines how much of the cost of a capital asset a business may deduct each year for tax purposes. Generally, CCA rates are designed so that the deduction for capital costs is spread over the useful life of the asset. This system is similar to the accounting treatment of depreciation of assets. However, the CCA system is also used to promote or discourage certain types of investments.

Given that the 2006 and 2007 Conservative budgets had major implications for charities in Canada it is perhaps not surprising that the 2008 budget was rather muted in this respect (as in many others). Nevertheless, the Conservative government did take the opportunity to clean up some of the unforeseen problems associated with the charity initiatives in the first two budgets.

Le Ministre Flaherty vient de déposer le troisième budget du gouvernement conservateur et comme plusieurs s’y attendaient, c’est un budget prudent qui a été délivré aux contribuables. Le contexte actuel obligeait le Ministre Flaherty à demeurer prudent en faisant preuve d’une gestion fiscale responsable et donc, la population ne pouvait s’attendre à de grandes dépenses fiscales.
